ANZAC Day Services with the ANZAC Sub-Committee

The BWMCA and the ANZAC Sub-Committee are proud to present ANZAC Day. Buderim has held an Anzac Day service since 1919 and has remained an independent service.

Schedule of Events

  • The day begins with a poignant Dawn Service at Buderim Village Park, with stunning views of the Sunshine Coast and its beaches.

  • Following the service, Veterans, local schools and community groups will take part in the Buderim Street March along Burnett Street and Main Street, concluding at the Buderim Mountain State School oval.

  • The Main Service is dedicated to honouring the service men and women who have served Australia and our Allies.

After the service, please join us for a complimentary morning tea at the Buderim Memorial Community Hall.

  • A Scenic Moving Service in Buderim Village Park

    The park is located at the corner of King & Church Streets, Buderim.

    Experience a moving service that offers stunning views over the beaches from Buddina to Caloundra. This service begins just before dawn and closes as the sun gently rising on the horizon.

    After the service enjoy breakfast with the Lions Club of Buderim

  • The Lions Club of Buderim Hosts a Community Breakfast

    The Lions Club of Buderim organizes a delightful breakfast for the community from the Middy’s car park, beginning at 5:00 a.m.

    All proceeds from this breakfast contribute to fundraising efforts for the Buderim Lions Club to support the community.

  • Join us for our ANZAC Day March featuring Veterans and their families, Military personnel and Air Force Cadets, the 2nd Lighthorse Brigade, local school and community bands. The march will pause to salute the flag at the Buderim Community Centre before continuing to Buderim Mountain State School.

    • Start Time: 8:30 a.m.

    • Location: Begins at the Buderim Marketplace Car Park

    • Ends at: Buderim Mountain State School for the main service.

  • The Main Service takes place at Buderim Mountain State School pine forest and is dedicated to honoring the service men and women who served Australia and our allies in various wars. Special guests, including State and Federal MPs, Sunshine Coast Regional Council representatives, Speakers, and Veterans and their families. Local community groups and schools participate in the ceremony and lay commemorative wreaths after the official wreath laying.

  • Join Us for a Community Morning Tea Straight After The Main Service

    The BWMCA is delighted to invite the community to a special morning tea. This gathering features a selection of home-baked treats prepared by our wonderful volunteer members, as well as contributions from our affiliate groups and generous local businesses, including Woolworths Metro Buderim, Simplee Sweet on Buderim, and the Buderim Tavern.

    This morning tea is held at the Buderim Memorial Community Hall, Cnr Main & Church Streets, Buderim

ANZAC Sub-Committee Members

  • Major Drew Miller (R'td)

    Chair

    Drew served with the United Nations as part of the Australian Peacekeeping Contingent in Rwanda,

    Drew is a proud local veteran and a dedicated school teacher. Since leaving the Army in 2003, he has actively participated in organizing ANZAC Day commemorations and enjoys collaborating with like-minded individuals to strengthen our community.

    Drew has been a vital member of the committee since 2016.

  • Ruth Wade

    Secretary

    Ruth serves as our vibrant secretary and displays a keen attention to detail - so critical in ensuring Buderim’s ANZAC and Remembrance Day services run like clockwork.

    Ruth comes from lengthy, high-level careers in both the Commonwealth and State Government agencies, the Agriculture and Resources sectors.

    She has a deep commitment to Australian military commemoration owing to a family history of service.

  • Major Brett Green (R'td)

    Vice Chair

    At just 17-years-old, Brett bravely enlisted in the army, embarking on a life-defining journey that saw him rise through the ranks to become an Army Major.

    Residing in Buderim with his wife and 12-year-old son, Brett pours his heart and soul into providing invaluable support to the families of Veterans who have given their lives or health through their service.

    Joining Legacy Brisbane at 36-years-old, Brett became one of the organisation’s youngest Legatees.

  • Peter Hall

    Committee Member

    Peter’s keen commitment to Australian military commemoration stems from his family’s history of service with Australian forces in Egypt, The Sinai Desert, France and New Guinea.

    Upon appointment as a deputy principal of Buderim Mountain SS from 1993, Peter was indirectly responsible for the Buderim Community’s ANZAC Day service being held from the mid 1990s in the School’s pineforest.

    This came about when he unforgivably neglected to direct students to wriggle their toes whilst standing for the commencement of a new whole-school ANZAC Day service on the sunny, steamy school oval. Fainting students led to future whole-school services being held in the shady pineforest. The beautiful, sheltered setting proved attractive for all subsequent ANZAC Day services by the Buderim Community.

  • Drew Wall

    Committee Member

    Drew is keenly interested in Australian military history and its commemoration. He has an encyclopaedic knowledge matters military. Despite a longtime career in the computer industry, Drew still found time to generously give of his time and expertise to supporting RSL and Legacy services to this day.

  • Peter Sergent

    Committee Member

    Following an extensive career as a teacher and senior principal with the Queensland Education Department, Peter demonstrated his practical keenness for Australian military history and its commemoration by leading ten-day treks of New Guinea’s Kokoda Track some fifteen times….in retirement no less!!

    All this Kokoda trekking aided by PNG porters has led to Peter developing a deep fondness and appreciation for the descendants of the renowned ‘Fuzzy-Wuzzie Angels” of World War 2 fame.

    For good measure, Peter has also led multiple commemorative treks on the routes of Borneo’s Sandakan Death Marches and is a wonderful ANZAC speechmaker.

  • Errol Richardson

    Committee Member

    Errol has had 37 years’ experience in the not-for-profit industry in Australia, the majority as managing Director or Chief Executive Officer of multi-discipline organizations. In addition, he has been an Industry representative on state and national bodies, a member of working party for draft industry legislation and prepared submissions to government and committees of inquiry. He is a qualified Company Director and a former Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors
